Position Overview – Occupational Therapy with VisAbility

We are currently looking for a dedicated and motivated Occupational Therapist to become part of our VisAbility team in Hobart. The role is central to enhancing the lives of clients by providing quality, personalized therapy services based on the latest clinical standards and best practices. You’ll be part of a professional team committed to improving outcomes and promoting independence for people with vision loss or disability.

Your Responsibilities in the Role

As an Occupational Therapist within our organization, your role will be diverse, engaging and crucial. Your primary goal is to ensure that clients receive individualized, outcome-focused therapy that aligns with their goals and lifestyle. The scope of your role includes:

  • Conducting detailed clinical evaluations and assessments tailored to individual client needs.

  • Designing, implementing and monitoring customized care plans.

  • Advising on and recommending assistive devices and technology to support independence.

  • Ensuring all services adhere to the highest standards of practice, compliance regulations and funding agreements.

  • Keeping up with advancements in therapy methodologies and tools, including research-backed treatment approaches and assistive innovations.

  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation using our Client Management System (CMS).

  • Reporting operational or client-related concerns directly to the Program Manager.

  • Contributing to service improvement and innovation through participation in internal quality initiatives.

  • Providing mentorship and knowledge-sharing to junior therapists, peers and stakeholders.

  • Supporting community education and awareness efforts related to occupational therapy and disability services.

  • Taking on additional tasks and responsibilities as required by leadership or emerging client needs.

Key Skills, Qualifications & Traits We’re Looking For

Essential Criteria:

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a recognized degree in Occupational Therapy.

  • Maintain full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Demonstrated experience working in areas such as functional capacity assessments, individualized interventions and case management.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams and with external stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – particularly the ability to draft clear, informative and concise client reports.

  • Confidence in providing clinical reasoning and making independent decisions regarding client care.

  • Proven ability to manage a caseload efficiently while delivering consistent, high-quality outcomes.

  • A creative, forward-thinking approach to care delivery that is flexible and client-focused.

  • Working knowledge of legislation and regulations related to disability services and aged care in Australia.

  • Must be able to undergo police clearance and obtain an NDIS Worker Screening Check.

  • A current driver’s license and willingness to travel for community and home visits.

  • Prior experience supporting adults living with physical, cognitive or sensory disabilities – particularly those who are blind or have low vision.

Preferred (Not Mandatory):

  • Experience working within disability support organizations or the public health sector.

  • Familiarity with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and My Aged Care funding models and service delivery frameworks.

Remuneration and Perks

Salary Bracket: $95,151 to $105,987 annually (dependent on experience and qualifications).
