2024 Remote Law and Compliance Summer Associate Internship

This internship is meticulously crafted to offer exposure and hands on experience in various facets of legal and compliance processes within Symetra Financial. The program aims to equip interns with practical, on the job experience, foster mentoring relationships and provide valuable professional networking opportunities.
By immersing interns in the daily operations of the team, they will gain the chance to contribute to diverse projects across the department.
The ideal candidate for this internship will be an eager and inquisitive learner who enjoys conducting thorough research, preparing written analyses and understanding the nuances of details.
The internship, slated for the summer of 2024, is designed to be fully remote, eliminating the need for interns to be located near a Symetra office.
Educational, Experiential and Skill Requirements
- Currently enrolled in law school with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Non law school graduate program experience or enrollment in an undergraduate program will also be considered, particularly if there is a demonstrated interest in legal or compliance topics (position dependent).
- Possess critical attention to detail, organizational skills and effective planning abilities.
- Demonstrate self motivation, multitasking capabilities, problem solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Act independently as the primary owner of projects, analyses and processes while collaborating cross functionally within the immediate work group.
- Showcase strong organizational, analytical and writing skills.
- Effectively convey pertinent information.
- Accept and adapt readily to changes including changes in organizational structure, strategies, business processes and procedures.
- Exhibit a commitment to follow through on problems to ensure full resolution.
Potential Responsibilities in Law and Compliance
Law Project Examples
Collaborate closely with business teams, gaining experience in providing litigation support, researching federal and state laws and regulations, transactional review, insurance and financial searches research and related legal support.
Review and summarize deal documentation, monitor and update regulatory and business trackers and actively participate in cross departmental meetings.
Compliance Project Examples
Work with the Compliance team to support daily operations, including drafting or editing policies and procedures, compiling analysis for regulatory filings, aiding with policy and procedure monitoring, drafting or editing presentations and aggregating data for compliance related functions ensuring the firm adheres to its requirements under federal securities.
