CircleCI is actively seeking an Engineering Manager to assume leadership of our API product engineering team. We are in search of a manager who possesses a profound commitment to the development of engineers and a keen interest in spearheading the implementation of customer facing APIs crucial for our business growth.

This full time position is available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands or Germany.

About The Team

The API team’s primary objective is to deliver our public API to end users. CircleCI’s API serves as a gateway for customers to trigger pipelines, access build data, monitor running jobs, analyze usage patterns and much more.

The team’s responsibilities extend across our entire product, intricately connecting sophisticated systems to provide a seamless and delightful interface for our most demanding customer use cases.

Responsibilities

As the Engineering Manager for the API team, you bear the responsibility of ensuring the team effectively addresses real customer challenges by delivering a high quality API experience.

This role revolves around people management, engineering strategy and team performance, with a primary focus on fostering the growth of engineers. Your key areas of responsibility include:

1. People:
   • Attract, onboard and retain a diverse pool of top talent.
   • Develop individuals and the team through coaching, mentoring and management support.
   • Conduct regular 1:1s, goal setting and feedback conversations with engineers, aiding them in their career paths.
   • Continuously work towards improving inclusion and fostering a sense of belonging within the team.
2. Process and Collaboration:
   • Collaborate with cross functional teams to identify and prioritize critical use cases for our API.
   • Work across all engineering teams to implement effective collaboration processes and accelerate the development of other teams within our API ecosystem.
3. Technical Skills:
   • Possess knowledge of API design and key API topics, focusing on reliability, high availability, scalability and observability.
   • Act as an arbiter in technical discussions or ask pertinent questions of the team during technical solution deliberations.

Qualifications

People Management:

• Proven experience managing, mentoring and training individuals including team establishment and talent acquisition. Bonus points for experience in a fast paced and growing startup environment.

Remote Work:

• Experience leading and motivating a distributed team, in line with CircleCI’s remote first approach.

Iteration not Precision:

• A preference for delivering solutions incrementally, with a willingness to incorporate experimentation and innovation. Experience with agile methodologies is beneficial.

Learning:

• An action oriented approach to continuously improving teams. Thrives in a culture centered on open communication, strong feedback, quick experimentation, blamelessness and learning from failure.

Communication:

• Belief in open and honest communication, working to cultivate this within the team and organization. Approach challenges with an open mind, listening to different perspectives before determining a path forward.

Technical:

• Strong technical background in API design, distributed systems and performance optimization. Willingness to learn and continuously improve in areas where experience may be lacking.

Compensation Ranges

United States: $150,000—$215,000 USD Canada: $138,000—$173,000 CAD
